Sun PhuQuoc Airways has placed an order for up to 40 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft as part of its plans to build a long-haul international network. The agreement was announced by Boeing and the Vietnam-based carrier on February 18, marking a significant step in the airline’s fleet expansion strategy.

The aircraft ordered from Boeing are the 787-9 Dreamliner, a wide-body jet designed for long-distance routes with improved fuel efficiency. Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to use these aircraft to connect Phu Quoc with major cities across Asia, Europe and North America as it expands its international operations.
The 787-9 Dreamliner is designed for long-haul international routes and is known for better fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to older widebody aircraft. It also offers improved passenger comfort, with larger windows, quieter cabins and a more comfortable cabin environment, making it a preferred choice for airlines operating long-distance flights.
Speaking about the deal, Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of Sun Group, said
“The partnership with Boeing establishes a strong foundation for building a world-class airline that will operate alongside the tourism and resort ecosystem developed by the group.”
While the companies did not disclose the exact financial terms of the agreement, industry estimates value the deal at around $22.5 billion at list prices. This makes it one of the largest widebody aircraft orders placed by a Vietnamese carrier in recent years.
The move is expected to further strengthen Vietnam’s international connectivity and support the country’s growing tourism industry.
